Ice cream trucks evoke a certain nostalgia that is difficult to replicate. But at a time when large combustion engine trucks are being replaced left and right, what is to come of cold confection slinging vehicles? Perhaps they can be replaced by this Vespa-looking ice cream scooter instead. It’s not technically a Vespa, though it certainly has that vintage vibe. It’s actually from a company named Xuchang Zhenda Machinery Co., and I since I found them perusing China’s largest online shopping site, it makes a great addition to the Awesomely Weird Alibaba Electric Vehicle of the Week. The three-wheeled refrigerator…
Two of the lines will begin mass production this year, while the other is expected to reach mass production by October 2024. https://img.cnevpost.com/2023/10/14105236/2023101402523649.mp3 (Image credit: Comau) Nio (NYSE: NIO) has added three electric drive system (EDS) production lines in preparation for future capacity expansion, especially after the launch of the sub-brand codenamed Alps. Italian automation specialist Comau delivered flexible EDS automated assembly lines to Nio that will allow the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker’s third-generation induction motors and permanent magnet synchronous motors to be co-produced on the lines, the Italian company, which is part of the Stellantis Group, said in…
California governor Gavin Newsom (D-CA) signed legislation that mandates all new school buses in the state to be electric starting in 2035. California already led the US in electric school bus adoption with over 2,078 committed electric buses across the state, at least 34% of which are already delivered or operating. And with Newsom’s sign-off on Assembly Bill 579, it’s now the fifth state to mandate electric school buses, joining Connecticut, Maryland, Maine, and New York. Where the money’s coming from for electric school buses California estimates its price tag will be around $5 billion to complete the state’s transition to…

Over the past few months, both the popular press and specialty publications in the renewable energy field have been abuzz with excitement about the commercialization of a new-ish geothermal energy technology by a Houston-based startup company, Fervo Energy. The approach, called Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS), uses hydraulic fracturing (fracking) techniques developed by the oil and gas industry to access geothermal energy at locations where hot underground water does not reach the Earth’s surface. The Fervo Energy breakthrough gained wide notice in part because the…
Ford’s Lightning production woes may have hit another hurdle. The automaker revealed plans Friday to temporarily trim one of three shifts at its Rouge EV plant in Michigan, where the F-150 Lightning is built. Ford said the move would occur on Monday, affecting around 700 jobs. The American automaker claimed the cuts were unrelated to the UAW strike. The move comes two days after United Auto Workers (UAW) union workers walked off the job at its largest plant in Kentucky in a strike amid contract bargaining. According to a new report from Reuters, Ford said multiple constraints, including supply chain…
Kia is following in the footsteps of Ford, GM, and Rivian as it prepares to “be reborn as a central brand.” With plans to build a second factory for purpose-built EVs, Kia aims to take advantage of the growing need for PBVs. The South Korean automaker proposed the plan during wage talks with union workers Friday, according to industry sources. Kia looks to compete in the emerging tailor-made vehicle segment over the next several years. In a keynote speech this week, Song Ho-Song said that to sustain growth, “transformation of the entire business is necessary.” He emphasized Kia’s transition from…
Last month’s “Run on Less” event organized by the North American Council for Freight Efficiency (NACFE) proved a real success for the Tesla Semi, full data released by the organization shows. Tesla’s all-electric Class 8 truck demonstrated its range and charging efficiency advantages compared with competitors from established truck makers such as Freightliner and Volvo. “Tesla is the leader in terms of performance and range,” John Boesel, CEO of Calstart, a clean transportation industry organization, told Automotive News, citing early data. “They are also the only ones demonstrating superfast charge capability.” For more than two weeks, the trucking research group…
Electric bicycles have proven their worth when it comes to getting from point A to B in the urban setting. That said, they’ve gone beyond simple personal mobility, and are now proving to be essential tools for business to deliver products and services. For the longest time, delivery businesses – be it for products or services – have relied on bulky vans that can easily get stuck in traffic. The advent of electric bicycles, particularly those designed to haul heavy cargo, is vastly changing the last-mile delivery industry. Indeed, several times before, we’ve talked about a lot of companies making…
The owner of a Tesla Model 3 Performance from Mefalsim, Israel, escaped alive from a shocking attack by Hamas fighters, and it was mostly thanks to his car, according to a report from Israeli news outlet Walla. Minutes after Hamas forces invaded the Otaf settlements from the nearby Gaza Strip, a man described in the report only as C., a resident of Kibbutz Mefalsim, was called with the settlement’s emergency squad. He jumped in his Tesla and started driving to the assembly point when a pickup truck loaded with Hamas combatants cut him off and opened fire. What happened next sounds…
Tesla share shrinks, Toyota solid-state production, Kia EV9 range and efficiency: Today’s Car News
The Kia EV9 is one of the most efficient EVs with three rows of seating. Toyota pushes along on solid-state battery tech. And Tesla’s share of the EV market is shrinking. Should it cut prices again? This and more, here at Green Car Reports. EPA driving range numbers for the 2024 Kia EV9 span up to 304 miles, the automaker confirmed on Thursday. That’s particularly impressive, as it makes the EV9 the only non-Tesla three-row electric SUV to achieve 300 miles on less than 100 kwh. Toyota is looking ahead to production of solid-state EV batteries with a partnership with…
