One of the biggest unknowns regarding the upcoming Tesla Cybertruck was and still is its size, but a set of new photos posted online on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum shed some light on the matter. In the images (embedded below), a release candidate (RC) Cybertruck is stopped at a Tesla Supercharger, and a Rivian R1T is parked right next to it, giving us an idea of what to expect when the angular all-electric pickup hits the market toward the end of this year (probably). Judging from the photos, the Cybertruck seems a bit wider and longer than the R1T.…

The Leapmotor C10 looks a lot like Li Auto’s Li L7 and Li L8, especially the roof LiDAR and the front and rear run-through lights. https://img.cnevpost.com/2023/10/16154002/2023101607400264.mp3 Leapmotor unveiled its first global model, the C10, in Germany a month ago, and now the model has entered a regulatory filing catalog in China with an interesting exterior design. China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) released its latest catalog of models that will soon be allowed to be sold for public comment today, and the battery electric vehicle (BEV) version of the Leapmotor C10 is included. The public can submit feedback…

Six months after buying my first EV (see My First EV — Part I), the time has come for the first long trip — Cupertino to Huntington Beach, about 420 miles each way. We decided to go on Highway 101 rather than 5, about 20 miles longer, but a prettier drive. We took two days to get to the destination, with one overnight stop in Santa Maria and one day to get back home. Ready to go, 283 miles in the tank. We drove…

In August, global sales of plug-in electric cars exceeded 1.2 million units, which was the third-best result ever (almost a new record). According to EV-Volumes data, shared by Jose Pontes, 1,238,484 new passenger plug-in electric cars were registered globally in August (45 percent more than a year ago). That’s about 18 percent of the total market (compared to 15 percent a year ago) and one of the best results so far this year. Together with some 800,000 non-rechargeable hybrids, once again, roughly a quarter of the global car market is somehow electrified – xEVs (BEVs, PHEVs, HEVs). All-electric car sales…

During the third quarter of 2023, Porsche delivered 19,988 cars in the United States, which is 20.5 percent more than a year ago and the second-strongest quarterly result in the company’s history. The year-to-date result is 56,323 (up 15 percent year-over-year). Porsche’s all-electric car sales also improved (finally, after six consecutive quarters of year-over-year decline). In Q3, Porsche sold 2,050 Taycan electric cars (all versions), which is 55 percent more than a year ago. The Taycan accounted for slightly more than 10 percent of the brand’s total volume. The recent increase in sales probably means that the German brand solved…

In September, new passenger car registrations in Germany amounted to 224,502 – basically on par with the volume a year ago. During the first nine months of 2023, 2,138,066 new cars were registered (up 14.5 percent year-over-year). Meanwhile, the plug-in electric car segment experienced a significant decrease in new registrations last month due to the end of EV incentives for business buyers. The end of some incentives also explains the rush for new electric company cars in August, when all-electric car registrations surged by 171 percent year-over-year to almost 32 percent of the total market. In September, the total new…

The 2024 Lexus TX is exactly what it needs to be—almost, in one of its versions. It’s a big, boxy three-row SUV with adult-size space in all rows, wide-opening doors, loads of flat-folding cargo versatility, and low lift heights—plus a TX 500h hybrid version, as well as an available TX 550h+ plug-in hybrid version that can go up to 33 electric miles. In a first drive of the 2024 Lexus TX lineup this past week, I found that it definitely hits a sweet spot in the market. It feels more composed and settled in the corners, or on choppy road…

Energy storage with more than four hours of duration could play an important role in integrating lots of renewable energy onto the U.S. power grid, but it makes up less than 10% of the storage deployed since 2010. That may change with a potential shift to net winter demand peaks, according to a new publication by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). This work builds on NREL’s multiyear Storage Futures Study (SFS) that analyzed the fundamental role of energy storage in maintaining a resilient, flexible, and low-carbon…
