The Australian High Court has reversed a tax on EVs levied by the Victorian state government, which was hailed as the “worst EV policy in the world” as it taxed EVs and not gas-powered vehicles. In 2021, the Victorian State Government proposed a tax on EVs, with the rationale that it needed to make up lost road revenue, a common fossil-industry talking point used in attempting to disadvantage EVs. General Motors announced Tuesday that it is delaying scaled-up production of its full-size electric pickups for a whole year, to late 2025.  That extra year of time, idling GM’s Orion Assembly in Michigan, won’t be filled by additional production of the Chevy Bolt EV and Bolt EUV, however. Those models are still due to go out of production late this year, with a next-generation Bolt EV due to follow at some future date and $30,000 Chevy Equinox EV due in spring 2024. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened an investigation into General Motors’ self-driving unit Cruise to determine whether it has taken enough measures to protect pedestrians. The chief US auto safety regulator said its Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received two reports of incidents involving Cruise autonomous vehicles where pedestrians were injured, according to Reuters and AP. NHTSA added it identified two further incidents in videos posted to public websites. The number of relevant pedestrian incidents is unknown, ODI said. Nissan has revealed the third of four advanced EV concepts headed for a debut at the Tokyo auto show later this month.  Called the Hyper Tourer Concept, it fits in alongside the Hyper Urban and Hyper Adventure concepts. It reconceives the minivan, assuming a future in which autonomous-driving technology will allow people to enjoy the company of others in transit, and in which innovative EV packaging is allowed by solid-state batteries.  Nissan sees solid-state batteries as a key to making electric SUVs and pickups viable, and it’s working on its own proprietary all-solid-state cells, aiming for market availability in 2028…
