It’s often said that electric powertrains will allow automotive designers to throw out many current design conventions. That’s certainly the case with this EV concept. Created by Hoverboard inventor Shane Chen, the SHANE is a two-wheeled electric car with seating for five in a pod-like cabin sandwiched between giant wheels that “automatically react” to body motion to maintain stability, according to a press release describing the vehicle. “Two-wheeled cars have simply not been practical or stable enough for everyday driving, until now,” Chen said in a statement. “I look forward to collaborating with partners to bring this concept to life.”…

Workers at GM’s Spring Hill Manufacturing are now on strike UAW has announced that it has come to a tentative agreement with Stellantis to end the six-week strike, including job gains from the reopening of a plant in Belvidere, Illinois and addition of a new battery plant in that location. Soon after, UAW announced that workers at GM’s plant which makes the all-electric Cadillac Lyriq will go on strike. Just days after UAW made a tentative deal with Ford, the union has now announced a similar deal with Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler. Just as with the Ford deal,…

Cynthia just reported yesterday on a couple of eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) aircraft milestones. We’ve got two more to report on as well — one in China and one in the USA. I’ll start with the story from China. Commercial EHang Flights Now Approved in China! EHang & GZDG Vertiport. An exceptional thing happened in the third quarter of 2023, as the two largest all-electric car manufacturers (OEMs) – Tesla and BYD – sold a similar number of vehicles. As with every quarter, in this post, we will take a look at the global sales results of battery electric cars (BEVs) by three OEMs – Tesla, BYD, and Volkswagen Group – although the third one is not in the same league as the first two right now. Last quarter, Tesla once again sold the highest number of all-electric cars at 435,059. However, partially due to some upgrades at its factories, the year-over-year…

The stage is set for “rapid-fire growth” in electric vehicle sales volumes in the US but dealers and automakers might have to go the extra mile in keeping customers interested during the year-end holiday period, JD Power outlined in its latest E-Vision Intelligence Report. A trio of factors has contributed to this potential challenge: a major update is coming to the federal clean vehicle credit in 2024, buyers are still swayed by gas-powered cars, and conventional pricing dynamics are being disrupted. What does this mean for potential EV buyers? If you’re looking to buy an EV this holiday season, it…

Vietnamese automaker VinFast is reportedly considering adding a fifth vehicle to its planned U.S. lineup, and it’s a very unlikely choice – the VF3 mini crossover. Designed for the Vietnamese market, the VinFast VF3 could have potential for the U.S. market as a sub-$20,000 city car targeting budget-minded Americans, VinFast representatives told Automotive News. First shown in June, the VinFast VF3 is a boxy, high-riding two-door vehicle that measures just 122.6 inches in length, making it some 10 inches shorter than the similar Baojun Yep co-developed by GM with its Chinese partners SAIC and Wuling. The company did not reveal…

Sign up for daily news updates from CleanTechnica on email. Or follow us on Google News! A few years ago, I drove for Uber and Lyft in the Phoenix metro. People at the airport parking lots and Uber driver Facebook groups kept saying that robotaxis weren’t coming for our jobs, but I figured differently. We were already sharing the road with test vehicles not only from Waymo, but also Uber’s modified Volvos. As we all know, time is money, and I figured we didn’t have much time before those Volvos took our jobs, assuming Tesla didn’t take everyone’s jobs faster.…

Which two automakers aborted plans to create millions of EVs together? Which charging network became the first one to buy charging hardware from Tesla? This is our look back at the Week In Reverse—right here at Green Car Reports—for the week ending October 27, 2023. This past week, the Tokyo auto show, officially the Japan Mobility Show, was the backdrop for various EV concept reveals.  That included several Toyota concept vehicles were revealed for the show, including a Land Cruiser Se EV concept that might take the rugged off-road nameplate in a new direction—potentially, as an even bigger three-row family…

I like to say that the strange and fun vehicles that we dredge up each week for the Awesomely Weird Alibaba Electric Vehicle of the Week column cover everything on land, sea and even in the air. But every now and again we go past mere wheels, wings and hulls to something truly category-defying. I’m not sure how to classify this electrically-powered backyard rollercoaster this week, but I sure am glad that it exists. Technically this is probably not meant to be a backyard rollercoaster, at least not exclusively. It looks like the kind of thing that a local 19-year-old…
