Chevrolet has confirmed a few more details regarding the upcoming Equinox EV—including more detail on its arrival timing, a price hike for the base version, and the attraction of a nearly 320-mile range for an effective cost in some cases of under $30,000. In a press call Monday afternoon, GM revealed that the base Chevrolet Equinox EV will launch in calendar year 2024 with a starting price of $34,995—before the $7,500 EV tax credit that most buyers will likely qualify for and, starting next year, be able to claim up front at the dealership. That puts the effective starting price…
The progressing expansion of the electric vehicle market and huge expectations about future growth have prompted massive EV-related investments in the U.S. Aside from new EV factories and a small tsunami of EV battery factories, there is also a significant wave of new EV charging equipment factories coming right now, an analysis of Department of Energy data shows. The DOE’s Vehicle Technologies Office highlights that since 2021, manufacturers have announced more than $500 million in EV charger investments. This includes all types of electric vehicle charging equipment, including Level 2 AC charging points, DC fast chargers and some wireless charging systems…
Last week, General Motors and Ford announced they are pushing back spending on electric vehicles, citing slowing demand for BEVs and the EV price war initiated by Tesla at the start of the year. But it looks like Detroit’s biggest automakers aren’t the only ones adopting a more cautious approach to EVs. Hertz executives were downbeat on electric vehicles as well on the company’s Q3 earnings call, announcing that the rental car giant is slowing down the pace by which it adds EVs to its fleet. Two years ago, Hertz pledged to order 100,000 Tesla EVs by the end of 2022.…

We’re two years into the Volvo VNR Electric leading the way in zero emissions trucking, with the company on track to put 300,000 such trucks into operation in the coming years. It’s safe to say, then, that electric semi trucks aren’t coming soon. They’re already here, and the scope of heavy electric vehicle applications is growing from city and school buses to refuse and drayage trucks to true over-the-road semi tractors. As such, manufacturers are going to have to play a larger battery production,…
With exactly one month left until the much-awaited Tesla Cybertruck delivery event happens – at least according to the latest information from the Elon Musk-led EV maker – there’s still a fair bit we don’t know about the angular electric pickup. Simple things like how big it is, how powerful it is, or how much range it will have. But until we get our hands on that information (probably after November 30), a new video popped up on social media that gives us a first-person view of the truck’s bed, including how the powered tonneau cover works. Embedded below, the…
A concept EV challenges the notion that electric cars need four wheels, or even three. Hertz backs away from its ambitious EV plans. One company pushes ahead with plans for U.S.-made solid-state cells. And Chevrolet Bolt EV owners have a new option to remedy their battery and their wallet. This and more, here at Green Car Reports. The 2020-2022 Chevy Bolt EV battery recall has evolved, and owners now face a new choice as part of a class-action lawsuit settlement and GM’s battery recall effort affecting these cars. If they install diagnostic software temporarily limiting their car to 80% of…
The rental giant Hertz hit the brakes last week on its rapid shift to electric vehicles—from Tesla, particularly—citing the high cost of EV collision repair of these vehicles. The company’s CEO, Stephen Scherr, confirmed the company’s reasons behind the move during its third-quarter earnings call on Thursday, with the news first reported by CNBC. Maintenance on EVs remained lower than that of comparable ICE vehicles, Scherr explained, but that did little to offset the cost of fixing the cosmetic repairs and fender-benders that are figured into the company’s financials. “For context, collision and damage repairs on an EV can often…
Factorial Energy recently announced the opening of a new manufacturing facility it claims is the largest thus far in the U.S. for solid-state batteries—although there’s not yet a timeline for scaled-up production. Located in the Boston suburb of Methuen, Massachusetts, near Factorial’s existing headquarters and R&D center, the $50 million facility “will accommodate up to a 200 MWh assembly line,” according to a Factorial press release. Factorial Energy 40-amp-hour solid-state battery The battery cells produced on that assembly line are expected to deliver a 30% boost in energy density, in addition to various other advantages like faster charging and better…
