Chevrolet has confirmed a few more details regarding the upcoming Equinox EV—including more detail on its arrival timing, a price hike for the base version, and the attraction of a nearly 320-mile range for an effective cost in some cases of under $30,000. The progressing expansion of the electric vehicle market and huge expectations about future growth have prompted massive EV-related investments in the U.S. Aside from new EV factories and a small tsunami of EV battery factories, there is also a significant wave of new EV charging equipment factories coming right now, an analysis of Department of Energy data shows.  The DOE’s Vehicle Technologies Office highlights that since 2021, manufacturers have announced more than $500 million in EV charger investments. The rental giant Hertz hit the brakes last week on its rapid shift to electric vehicles—from Tesla, particularly—citing the high cost of EV collision repair of these vehicles.  The company’s CEO, Stephen Scherr, confirmed the company’s reasons behind the move during its third-quarter earnings call on Thursday, with the news first reported by CNBC. Factorial Energy recently announced the opening of a new manufacturing facility it claims is the largest thus far in the U.S. for solid-state batteries—although there’s not yet a timeline for scaled-up production. Located in the Boston suburb of Methuen, Massachusetts, near Factorial’s existing headquarters and R&D center, the $50 million facility “will accommodate up to a 200 MWh assembly line,” according to a Factorial press release.
